This hemiparasitic species is renowned to be hard to propagate. Wikipedia says it may take 18 months for chicken passed seed to germinate. Maybe a short soak in 10% hydrochloric acid would act in the same way as the chicken’s digestive juices. Worth trying next time we get some seed.
